Interview with Bernadette Douetil – Holistic Therapist

Bernadette Douetil is the Holistic Therapist at Orange Tree Clinic practising a range of therapies including Massage, Aromatherapy, Reflexology, Facials, Stone Therapy Massage Mother-to-be and New Mother Treatments. She has lived and worked in Teddington for over 20years

Why did you choose to be a Holistic therapist?

I first became fascinated with the history and properties of essential oils during the early nineties.  After a hectic career in PR and Event Management I decided to pursue my passion for the subject and dramatically changed career paths to study full time in Aromatherapy and Reflexology, setting up Douetil Holistic Therapies in May 1995

What do you enjoy most about your job?

Every day is different presenting new challenges and personalities.  Many of my existing Clients have been with me throughout the 17 years and new Clients present a exciting challenge to personalise their treatments to suit their lifestyle.

What do you like to do in your spare time?

I love to cook, swapping recipes with Clients, especially my European Clients that add a little twist!  I have a strong design eye and enjoy researching latest interior design trends and then designing /creating  my own soft furnishings.   Gardening – always happy with my hands in soil – a chance to completely switch off.  Singing and Cycling…. usually combining the two together !

If you could change or create a new law what would it be?

I should like to dramatically improve the assistance and support given to Young Carers.   This distinctly vulnerable group of young people that care for sibling and/or parents with ill health or disabilities need more support and assistance by the Government to ensure that they can achieve their full potential whilst in education.

What is your favourite homemade remedy?

My magic remedy for coughs, colds, upset tummies, low energy, jetlag and hangovers ….  Mug of hot water with two tsps Manuka honey, juice of half a lemon, grated fresh ginger (large piece) and a hug! Repeat three times a day, including the hug!
